Pinups - Pan Am Cutie by warbirdphotographer
Pinups - Pan Am Cutie
Today's airbrushed style pinup photo features Kirsten in this tribute to the 1940s Pan American Airlines! Pan American World Airways, or Pan Am as it's known by many started in 1927 by two famous Army Air Force Majors ("Hap" Arnold and Carl Spaatz). Given the green light to carry mail and passengers, Pan Am was officially endorsed by the US Government as a way of stopping the growth of German-Colombian airline SCADTA. This allowed Pan Am to almost have a monopoly on international routes and shot it up to the top allowing it to acquire several over airlines. In the 1930s Pan Am was booming in what was called the Clipper Era with seaplane flights all over the world. Pan Am enjoyed very little competition in the air travel industry through World War 2 (where the majority of airline aircraft were drafted into military service). After the war, however, air transport exploded and soon Pan Am found itself amidst several other rapidly growing airline companies including American Airlines, United, DELTA, TWA, and more.

Nose Art - 'No Sweat' by warbirdphotographer
Nose Art - 'No Sweat'
Today's airbrushed style pinup photo features Samantha in another of the ongoing WW2 Nose Art Pinup series! Calling on the classic Vargas style pinup that would often adorn nose of Fighters/Bombers or the backs of bomber jackets during World War 2. This particular WW2 Pinup Art represents the 20th Air Force with Samantha and the mighty Boeing B-29 Superfortress.  Nose Art and Jacket Art were often very colorful and not only represented the aircraft the person was assigned to, but also what squadron or overall group the person was with.

Pinups - A Mouse! by warbirdphotographer
Pinups - A Mouse!
Today's airbrushed style pinup photo features Kelsey and a little mouse! The only drawback for Kelsey living on the farm at the turn of the century was the occasional little friends she'd attract begging for food. Here, a little mouse has found it's way inside and has startled Kelsey in the kitchen looking for some cheese. Now, where is that darn cat who never seems to do it's job?

Propaganda Pinups - To Victory! by warbirdphotographer
Propaganda Pinups - To Victory!
Today's pinup is another in the Airbrushed Propaganda Pinup Poster series featuring Shauna in this call to join the U.S. Army Air Force! The Army Air Corps (USAAC) was founded in 1926 having been renamed from the US Air Service during World War 1. In the early 30s the Army Air Corps had about 1,600 aircraft in inventory with very early monoplane fighters. By 1941 with the threat of war on the horizon, that number had grown to over 6,000 aircraft. The AAC name lasted through the peacetime between the wars and into the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. It wasn't until March of 1942 that the Army Air Corps was renamed to the Army Air Forces and became a fully structured arm of the US Army not only providing ground support but also independent operations.

Pinups - Cooking for Victory by warbirdphotographer
Pinups - Cooking for Victory
Today's airbrushed style pinup photo features Kayla cooking for victory! With many different foods being rationed for the war, Kayla has turned to her trusty victory cook books which go through a variety of recipes using home grown foods and vegetables from her Victory Garden outside. Being partially self-sufficient helps her make the ration points go really far!

Ever been to Oshkosh, Wis. the big air show? If not, I highly recommend it. It's been years since I've gone to it (early 80's). I believe it's still has the largest gathering of war birds in the world, from WWI-present.
I will have to stop back by and browse your work!
