Pinups - The Waist-Gunners of WW2 by warbirdphotographer Pinups - The Waist-Gunners of WW2 by warbirdphotographer
A new airbrushed style pinup photo for today. This time, it's a tribute to the brave aerial gunners of the Army Air Force bomber groups in the European and Pacific Theaters. The waist-gunners were not only often times subject to the frigid below freezing temperatures, but also extreme pressure as they (along with the tail and belly gunners) were the main defense for these bombers from attacking fighters. Even in the pressurized B-29s with remote control turrets, these gunners delt with death every day as these bomber crews had a life expectancy of 2-3 weeks!

I can imagine the ones on the B-24's and B-17's were immensely exposed to enemy fire aswell. Great photo, simply love it!

Thank you! And I can't imagine how crazy it was for them, especially with the open windows in the earlier models!
